Pack ice

Polar Bear on the pack ice

The pack ice  covers the northern parts of our globe. It’s a high Arctic ecosystem, and the base for most life in the high Arctic. Underneath the ice algae grow that form the base of the food chain. Small zooplankton feeds on those algae , who in turn are food for larger invertebrates and fish. At the end of the chain we find several species of whales, seals and, of course the Polar Bear. In these galleries you get an overview of these species and habitats typical for the high Arctic.
